The Norfolk Shipping Report

(Photo Credit: Norfolk Admirals // Twitter)

This is the first season with the Norfolk Admirals as the ECHL affiliate within the Nashville Predators organization. Their 2017-18 campaign officially got underway the second weekend of October and with a lengthy five-game road trip. They finally open up the Norfolk Scope this weekend, Friday and Saturday, with home games against the South Carolina Stingrays. To prep for that I thought it would be fun to take a look into the start for a lot of names that started out in Milwaukee’s Training Camp, are playing in Norfolk now, and the two defensemen that are teetering between the AHL and ECHL at the moment.

The Milwaukee Admirals returned to practice this morning at the MSOE Kern Center. After suffering their first defeat of the season against the Rockford IceHogs focus shifts to Friday night where the Admirals can get some quick revenge. This weekend sees the third meeting between the two teams in the opening six games. That will act as a table setter to Saturday when the first Amtrak Rivalry game will be played as the Admirals take on the Chicago Wolves – now the AHL affiliate of the Vegas Golden Knights.

The Milwaukee Admirals lost by a rough final score of 6-2 against the Rockford IceHogs last night at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena. It was an odd combination of the Admirals showing flashes of their ability while also being exploited mightily for the first time on the season. The IceHogs played with tons of energy and pace. The Admirals, at times, didn’t seem to know how to combat it. It could have been better. It could have been worse. But, regardless, it is a game that can act as a very nice building block for a week ahead that leads up to playing in Rockford on Friday night.

Admirals Suffer First Stumble; IceHogs Win 6-2

The Milwaukee Admirals lost 6-2 against the Rockford IceHogs at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena on Saturday night.

This was the stiffest test of the season so far for the Admirals. They faced their first deficit of 2017-18 and hardest adversity to date. Ultimately, they suffered their first loss of the season. The Admirals and IceHogs have now both only lost once this season. In both circumstances one has beaten the other in their own building.

“We talked to the group after that there is no question it’s our first sign of adversity,” commented Milwaukee Admirals head coach Dean Evason after the game. “I mean, we’ve had some suspect maybe minutes in games and periods but we didn’t have the energy level, we didn’t have the cohesiveness that we’ve had in the start and previous games. It hurt us.”

IceHogs: Scouting the Enemy

The Hershey Bears were at the start of their three-in-three weekend when the Milwaukee Admirals won 4-1 last night at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena. Tonight, the Rockford IceHogs arrive to Milwaukee and they are smack dab in the middle of a three-in-three weekend as well. While the Bears and IceHogs finish the weekend against each other tomorrow evening – the Admirals finish their’s tonight. It’s a good chance to empty the gas tank as the Admirals once again are due for another lengthy break between games. Their next game? Friday, in Rockford, against these IceHogs once again.

Bears: Scouting the Enemy

It has been a very long time since the Milwaukee Admirals have seen the Hershey Bears. In fact, the last meeting was the 2006 AHL Calder Cup Finals where the Bears defeated the Admirals and a very young Pekka Rinne and Shea Weber in a six-game series. That series ended in Milwaukee on 6/15/06 with a 5-1 Bears victory. Needless to say, much has changed for the two sides since they last played. Today: let’s simply focus in on what’s happening in 2017-18.

Joonas Lyytinen Reassigned to Norfolk

Joonas Lyytinen has been reassigned by the Milwaukee Admirals (AHL) to the Norfolk Admirals (ECHL). This move comes a week after the organization did the same thing to get Fred Allard playing time with Norfolk. Both of the Admirals will be playing Friday and Saturday night. Lyytinen should make his North American professional playing debut in the ECHL as Norfolk travel to face-off against the Colorado Eagles.

Anders Lindbäck won’t be rocking the Nashville Predators mask much anymore. Today he received his Milwaukee Admirals specific mask from DaveART. It will get its in-game debut come Friday night at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena. (Photo Credit: Shane Abbitt)

The Milwaukee Admirals held practice this morning at the MSOE Kern Center. They have been there this week as the Milwaukee Wave get going on their season at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena. That would mean, if you’re free tomorrow around 10:00 AM CDT on towards noon, you could get a final glimpse at these Admirals ahead of the first two home games of the season this weekend.
