The Milwaukee Admirals have been on a rather good run of form lately. They even managed to go into the Van Andel Arena on Wednesday night and rally back to beat the Grand Rapids Griffins 4-3. An issue for the Admirals this season has been sustaining positive momentum swings such as that result. We all saw immediately last night that things weren’t going to carry over. The Griffins won 5-2 in front of a record crowd for the Admirals at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena. The damage was done in the final five minutes of the first period.

The Milwaukee Admirals lost 5-2 against the Grand Rapids Griffins at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena on Friday night.

The Admirals once again fell into an early hole against the Griffins. Unlike Wednesday things didn’t work out quite as well this time around. The Admirals fell behind 3-0 after the first period and couldn’t get a foothold. The Griffins have now scored four or more goals in four straight games in Milwaukee. They did so tonight in front of 9,444 fans which was an Admirals record attendance = at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.

“We had some unfortunate plays early in the game,” said Milwaukee Admirals head coach Dean Evason after the game. “We turned the puck over early. We shot ourselves again. And, whenever you do that, it’s not going to be the right outcome. We have to do the right things early in hockey games in order to give ourselves an opportunity. We didn’t do it here tonight.”

Admirals Fight Back; Win 4-3 in Grand Rapids

The Milwaukee Admirals came back with four unanswered goals to win 4-3 on the road against the Grand Rapids Griffins at the Van Andel Arena on Wednesday night.

This game was looking like a typical Admirals trip into Grand Rapids. The Griffins had a 2-0 lead early and had a great effort in net from Jared Coreau. However, the Admirals scored four successive goals including three goals scored in the third period to comeback and beat the Griffins in their own barn.

Griffins: Scouting the Enemy

At this point numbers are unnecessary. Milwaukee Admirals fandom kind of understands when they see the Grand Rapids Griffins on the schedule that things are either going to be tight of not downright rough. That’s true at any venue. It’s especially true at the Van Andel Arena. These two are set to play in Grand Rapids tonight and then on a Concert Night in Milwaukee this Friday. Buckle up.

Keeping Tabs on Victor Ejdsell

There are a lot of reasons to be excited about Eeli Tolvanen. The Finnish forward has already surpassed Evgeny Kuznetsov‘s KHL record set in 2010-11 for the most points produced by a teenager. Tolvanen has amassed 33 points (17 goals, 16 assists) in 41 games with Jokerit and the team has 8 games remaining in their league schedule. It feels quite like the Nashville Predators got themselves a steal with the thirtieth overall selection in the 2017 NHL Draft.

As far as steals go the Predators might have done more in that department. A month prior to the most recent draft they managed to sign forward Victor Ejdsell to a two-year entry-level contract following a 2016-17 season where he earned MVP honors in Sweden’s second flight – Allsvenskan. Similar to Tolvanen, Ejdsell has yet to make the leap into the professional ranks in North America but instead is spending his 2017-18 season playing in a top European league. Ejdsell is showing with HV71 that his efforts that put him on an NHL radar wasn’t a fluke.

2017-18 Mid-Season Review

The Milwaukee Admirals 2017-18 season is officially at its halfway point. It’s been a difficult season to really gauge. October was great. November and December saw a nonstop sequence of ups-and-downs. Lately, things have started to turn for the better. Based on the two months previous to this upward trend it only feels hard to trust that this form will last. Hopefully time will tell.

The Admirals record is 20-14-4-0 (44 points, 0.579 points percentage). They are currently second in the Central Division and fourth in the Western Conference standings. For right now: that’s good. It has been a slightly turbulent season as the results have shaken out but -if- the lessons learned from those down moments are learned from it could mean good things for the second half of the season. The Admirals have a really young defense At times the team’s performance appears to reflect just how well or not well that young defense plays. These early experiences can go a long way into making the overall team stronger.

Streak Over; Rampage Beat Admirals 3-1

The Milwaukee Admirals lost 3-1 on the road against the San Antonio Rampage at the AT&T Center on Sunday afternoon.

There is a lot that comes to an end with this game. The Admirals four-game winning streak is snapped and done so at the hands of the Rampage who they had defeated nine-games consecutively. It is the first time since the start of the 2012-13 season that the Rampage have defeated the Admirals in regulation.
