Early & Positive Steps

It doesn’t take much more than to look at this season’s roster for the Milwaukee Admirals to know there are very good ingredients for success. There is a solid veteran leadership group. There were some good additions that worked around last season’s departures. And there were loads of returning talent that help make for instant chemistry from the get-go. That much has become immediately true. The Admirals started the season off with three road games and won them all while scoring 5 goals in each victory. As it stands, they are the AHL’s final team after two weeks of hockey to have an unbeaten record.

The Milwaukee Admirals won 5-3 on the road Sunday evening against the Rockford IceHogs at the BMO Harris Bank Center.

This game became a thriller in the closing minutes. The Admirals had a fantastic defensive effort but would see a 4-1 lead get shrunken down to 4-3 after successive goals scored by Laurent Dauphin late. The Admirals would shut the door with an empty netter scored by Tyler Kelleher that secured his second goal of the game and a third straight Admirals road win to start the 2017-18 season.

“You can’t say enough,” said Milwaukee Admirals head coach Dean Evason of Tyler Kelleher. “He’s done all the right things early in the season. Not even offensively, you can throw the numbers out, but he’s done the right things as far as all areas of the game. He’s playing the game the right way. He’s competing. And he’s a real, real good teammate.”

IceHogs: Scouting the Enemy

It feels it has been too long between games for the Milwaukee Admirals. They opened up the 2017-18 season last weekend in Iowa and took a pair of wins. The energy levels were high. The question now becomes whether or not a week between games will have lessened that or if it doesn’t even matter. The thing that kind of helps in the energy department today for the Admirals: their opponent today played less than 24 hours ago.

The Milwaukee Admirals ran practice this morning at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena. There was a delay to conduct a touch of ice maintenance. With all the construction taking place in the building humidity has caused a bit of havoc with consistency in the playing surface for the ice. Hopefully that gets clamped down in a week’s time as the home opener is fast approaching.

After a successful Opening Weekend in Iowa the Milwaukee Admirals returned to formal practice this morning at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena. Last night, Admirals season ticket holders had the chance to catch a 4-v-4 and 3-v-3 scrimmage between Team Drulia and Team Ford. That ended at a 7-3 final for Drulia’s group in the quite light and entertaining team scrimmage.

The American Hockey League has officially announced that the Colorado Eagles will be joining the league in the 2018-19 season as the Colorado Avalanche’s new AHL affiliate. The Eagles are currently in the ECHL and have been part of that league since 2011. That left the San Antonio Rampage open to be taken over which the St. Louis Blues have on a newly announced five-year affiliation agreement.

The Milwaukee Admirals won 5-4 on the road against the Iowa Wild at the Wells Fargo Arena Sunday evening.

This game had a lot of everything. It was a scrap fest but the Admirals speed and skill held their heads above water. Goals from five different players to go along with more excellent work on the penalty kill allowed the Admirals to take both games on Opening Weekend in Iowa.

Admirals Take Season Opener in Iowa, 5-2

The Milwaukee Admirals won 5-2 on the road against the Iowa Wild at the Wells Fargo Arena on Saturday night.

Tonight’s story: Admirals penalty killing. The Wild had seven chances on the power-play tonight and the only goal that would come during all of those chances would be Emil Pettersson scoring shorthanded for the Admirals. Anders Lindbäck was big in net when he needed to be and the Admirals offense maintained a cushion until the finish.
