The Milwaukee Admirals lost 2-0 on the road against the San Diego Gulls at the Valley View Casino Center on Friday night.
For the fifth time this season the Admirals were shutout. This was a solid effort for the Admirals. The difference was simply Reto Berra who earned a thirty-seven save shutout on the night as a Mike Liambas goal early in the second period proved to be enough.
This game’s first goal wouldn’t come until the opening minute of the second period and it came from former Admiral Mike Liambas. Julius Nättinen whipped a shot on Anders Lindbäck from the right wing that kicked back out towards the slot. Liambas was right there for the rebound and scored his fourth goal of the season to give the Gulls a 1-0 lead.
Action would continue at that score until the final minutes when Lindbäck made his way to the bench to get out the extra attacker out for the Admirals. Kalle Kossila would strike from the length of the ice into the empty net with 41.2 seconds remaining in regulation to make it a 2-0 Gulls lead from his fifteenth goal of the season.
That’s where this contest would end. The Admirals, who have been guilty of being massively outshot at times this season, flipped that script. The Admirals outshot the Gulls 37-23. The difference was Reto Berra in net for the Gulls. He was just solid from beginning to end.
The Admirals finish off the three-game West Coast swing tomorrow night at 8:00 PM CDT against the Ontario Reign. They will return to the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena on Tuesday night against the Grand Rapids Griffins.
Ramblings: Since the Milwaukee Admirals played on Wednesday night there have been no roster moves made in the organization. Tonight’s line combinations and defensive pairings were: Zolnierczyk-Smith-Butler, Richard-Gaudet-Gaudreau, Bollig-Pettersson-Zengerle, Kirkland-McNeill-Moy, Lyytinen-Granberg, Oligny-Dougherty, Carrier-Ramage. Tonight’s scratches were: Fred Allard (undisclosed), Cody Bass (upper-body), Trevor Mingoia (healthy), and Yakov Trenin (healthy). Justin Kirkland left in the second period due to injury and did not return to the contest.
What is your reaction to tonight’s game? Can you fault the Milwaukee Admirals much in this game given how well Reto Berra played in net for the San Diego Gulls? Should the Admirals bring this same effort tomorrow against the Ontario Reign do you think they will get a better result?
