Wild: Scouting the Enemy

The Milwaukee Admirals up and down run this season suffered a down on Wednesday night. The Admirals lost 4-2 against the Grand Rapids Griffins to see their five-game point streak come to an end. That run started well enough, with the Admirals first back-to-back regulation wins since they started the season on a four-game winning streak, but it was followed with three games that went beyond regulation. It ended with a rough “shoot self in foot” outing Wednesday. Focus now shifts to finding an “up” before the Admirals can figure out a way of maintaining a positive run of form.

Getting back to winning ways tonight will mean taking down the Iowa Wild. Thankfully for the Admirals that has been a favorable match-up. The Admirals are 3-0-1-0 against the Wild this season.

The Wild’s current record is 15-11-6-2 (38 points, 0.559 points percentage). They currently are locked up with the Rockford IceHogs (0.559) behind the Central Division leading Manitoba Moose (0.773). The Admirals will travel to play against the IceHogs on Sunday.

Entering tonight’s game the Wild aren’t that far off of where the Admirals have been the past month. The Wild and Admirals since December have both played 14 games. The Admirals went 5-4-4-0. The Wild went 5-3-4-2. And both managed to play 7 games beyond regulation. In other words, you might want to schedule dinner before or at the game tonight.

Sam Anas and Justin Kloos are both leading the charge for the Wild in scoring this season. Anas has produced 24 points (11 goals, 13 assists) in 28 games. Kloos has 24 points (9 goals, 15 assists) in 34 games. The Wild’s leading scorer in this match-up is Pat Cannone who has 4 points (2 goals, 2 assists) in 4 games.

Niklas Svedberg has been the main man in net for the Wild as of late. The 28-year old Swede has a record of 7-7-2-1 from 17 appearances this season and has a 2.76 goals against average, 0.909 save percentage, and shutout to his name. Against the Admirals this season Svedberg has made 3 starts, earned an OT win in his last appearance in Milwaukee, and has a 3.41 goals against average and 0.857 save percentage.

What are your expectations for tonight’s game? Can the Milwaukee Admirals bounce back tonight? How urgent do the Admirals need to play out of the gate in order to achieve a solid sixty-minute effort against the Iowa Wild?
