The Final Curtain – Ads Drop Game 7 To Aeros

“It’s heartbreaking.  You work so hard all year long and put it all on the line….game 7…..words can’t describe how bad you feel.  I hate losing.  I can’t believe it’s over.”

That’s a dejected Jeremy Smith after the Admirals fell short in game 7 of their playoff series with the Houston Aeros.

After some good chances in the offensive zone, Casey Wellman led a 2-on-1 rush, and beat Smitty with an NHL caliber shot with 1:21 left in the 3rd period, giving the Aeros the game-winning goal in a 4-2 victory Tuesday night.

Coach Lambert seconds that emotion.

“Total dejection is what I’m feeling, and the guys fought hard all series.  That’s part of playoff hockey.  There’s only one team that can win, and when you don’t, it hurts.”

The Nashville bump was there, as Matt Halischuk and Blake Geoffrion  figured into both Admiral goals, along with Gabriel Bourque.  But the late rush by Wellman took the wind out of the sails of the Admirals and everyone in the building.

With less than two minutes to go in the 3rd period the Admirals were attacking the offensive zone. They had about three great chances with the puck bouncing all over the place, inches from lighting the lamp. The Admirals were playing up trying to get the game winner when the puck was sent out to Wellman, who was then off to the races with the 2-on-1 rush.  Roman Josi gave chase along the near boards, blocked the passing lane and got a little piece of Wellman as he fired the shot on net. Smith was out to play the shot but missed it as it rang home to the top right of the cage.

“It was a fast break, 2-on-1,” Smitty said.  “Pretty much the same thing happened two shifts before that.  I thought I had the save, and he made a good shot.  Beat me clean.  That’s my shot – I got to make that save.  You got to give credit where credit is due, so I just got to learn from it.”

Transcribing those words doesn’t begin to illustrate the glumness in Smitty’s voice.  Sounded like we just told him Christmas has been cancelled, and replaced with a second Arbor Day.

Coach Lambert says it was a mistake to allow that rush.

“We had three or four good chances before they were able the break away from us.  We got a little eager, we gave up a 2-on-1 and that just can’t happen. “

The Admirals were the first to score in game 7 and it was a pair of the newly reassigned Admirals that were in on the score. Blake Geoffrion passed the puck to Matt Halischuk down low and then attempted a wrap around. The attempt bounced off Matt Hackett’s pads and right to a crashing Gabriel Bourque, who scored top shelf at the 8:02 mark in the first.

I’ll take momentum shifts for 300 Alex. With just 12 seconds left in the first period the Aeros’ Colton Gillies stuffed home a rebound to knot the game at 1 aside.  With a shot from the point, the puck found its way through traffic and on Jeremy Smith. It was a nice save but Smith couldn’t track down the rebound from his back, and with the loose puck in the paint it easily found a home on the other side of the goal line.

Ok, now I’ll take goals I’d like to have back for 1000. With Smith coming out of the net to play a puck behind the net, he mishandled a rotten bounce.  He took a couple more desperate stabs at it but had to leave it behind for the Aeros’ Carson McMillan, who gathered the puck and was able to get a quick shot in on the empty net as Smith couldn’t get back in time. That gave the Aeros their first lead of the game.

The Admirals would answer back at the 8:26 mark while on the Mountain Fury Power Play.  Geoffrion sent a puck down low to Bourque on the near side, who then sent a pass to Halischuk in the slot. Halischuk quickly sent the puck past Hackett to bring the match all square.

And then Wellman put the nail in the coffin, followed by an empty net goal from Warren Peters, who twisted the nail in the coffin while laughing and singing “Tomorrow, tomorrow, I love ya, tomorrow…..”*

*Do you need me to tell you that the last part didn’t happen?  Didn’t think so.

Good game.  Can’t blame the officials.  Great crowd, especially with the Brewers in town.  Exciting finish.  It’s what you want a game 7 to be.  Only thing I’d change would be the final score.  And the second Aeros goal.  I’d change that too.

We’ll close this with one more quote from Smitty, and then open up the post for your thoughts and comments on the game and the campaign.

“There’s no tomorrow now.  Your season is over.  There’s nothing…. You look forward to training this summer, but nobody….. Winning championships is fun.  That’s what you work so hard for.  And to be let down, and let your teammates down it’s just a terrible feeling and not one I want to have again.”

Smitty, I think I speak for all of us when I say that you were marvelous this season, and unworldly in this post-season.  Hang in there, bud, and we’ll see you next year.

  1. I hope he reads this…probably not, but here’s to hoping!

Smith should not feel bad, he didn’t let anybody down. The bad play on Houston’s 2nd goal is obviously one that shouldn’t happen, but let’s all admit that Smith was the only reason this team made it to a game 7. If anything, the rest of the team let him down!

With that being said, it was disappointing, but what hurt even most was losing to a “Grade A Douchebag” like Matt Hackett. With his trash talking to the fans and grandstanding after the empty-netter. I want nothing more than a Hamilton sweep in the next series, not only for Big Mac, but it would make for a nice middle finger to Hackett!

Now that it’s done, where do we go from here? Can we start guesstimating who will be back or definitely gone next season??? Speaking of gone next season; Wilson really took his time skating off the ice…perhaps a little upset that this was probably his last game in MKE???

  2. Hackett and Smitty are old OHL buds. They both fought hard in goal. The puck bounced in the Aeros favor this night. Smitty is a class act but both goalies need more seasoning before they can carry their teams to the cup.

  3. I told my wife that 2nd Aeros goal would make the difference in the game, and sure enough it did. Dekanich always used to chase pucks behind the net too, it annoyed me then, and it annoyed me tonight when it cost us the game. If I were Jeremy Smith, I’d be as glum as he is because he’s the biggest reason he’s going home tonight, and not to Hamilton. Just a dumb play. Should have just let it go, but he had to channel his inner Dex and chase the puck. The guy was right there, and to leave the goal to stop the puck? Unacceptable.

If there was a championship awarded for passing during a power play, the Admirals would win that this year. So many times they set up the perfect shot by passing. And again, it doesn’t pan out. Can’t someone take a chance and shoot without waiting for the perfect shot?

If you watched the game, the Aeros seemed to want it more. They were challenging the power play passes, wouldn’t let the Admirals out of their own zone without a challenge, and they had more shots on goal than we did. There were a lot of bad passes made tonight, that with a little less force, would have made highlight reels for goals scored.

Great season, but I wonder, is it time to get rid of the staff? Lambert can’t motivate his own players, on home ice, with a good crowd, AND NHL players coming back, to close out a series? In the 3 years I’ve been following the Ads, his teams never seem to play a full 60 mins. Sims said afterwards on the radio its the second time in 3 years loosing to the Aeros in a game 7. Seems like a hump he can’t get over and since I’ve been following the Ads, we’re a great regular season team, but choke in the playoffs. Thoughts?

  4. Biff and Myron – both stupid comments about Smith being at fault. You’re blaming the loss of the entire game and maybe even the series/season on one mistake? Smith played his ass off for us and played well enough the entire series to make anyone proud. He played better than the winning goalie, Hackett. But our team was getting outshot every damn game.
Other than an ignorant coach, the main reason for the loss tonight is that you had Blum, who doesn’t try HARD at ALL in Milwaukee and Laakso who sucks at D and was a -4. We DO need a new coach in Milwaukee. I’ve never liked Lambert as a coach and the Admirals have made the playoffs almost every single year, going back to their IHL days. So no, he doesn’t get any credit for getting us there. Good coaches take good teams deep into the playoffs, not just get them there. Early round exits have been a Lambert staple every year he’s coached.

  5. Completely disagree with criticism of a goalie chasing the puck behind the net. I love when goalies chase the puck, assuming they’re good at it. Pekka was tremendous at it. He made several mistakes in his time in Milwaukee, but you learn and move on. Look at Pekka now… So Smith made a goof. He’s chased the puck thousands of times in games this year. One mistake in those thousands is pretty good. Sure it was a costly mistake in the long run, but you can’t put the blame on him. As someone else mentioned, if it wasn’t for Smith, this Ads team wouldn’t have been in a game 7 situation to begin with. The offense let him down in game 2, being shut out. The defense let him down in the OT loss where he had to bail out the team making over 50 saves. Kudos to Smith on his play all year long. He’ll learn from everything that happened and hopefully come back even stronger next year.

  6. This team had so much talent i cant help but be disappointed in them after the effort they showed…

    Hackett pisses me off..nuff said

Im sure we will have a great team next year and hopefully repeat as number 1 seed and prove it in the playoffs.

Hope we get a captain that inspires the team and fire them up…honestly would like to see that be Kelsey Wilson.

  7. Smith stood on his head again. There was no help from Palin and Josi on the bad bounce goal. Laakso had a terrible turnover on the first goal and played poorly.

Wilson, Halischuk, Bourque and Thuresson played well tonight.

The Admirals went for the win with a few minutes to go. I give them credit for trying. Too bad that it backfired with the 2-on-1. Houston had too much offense and clogged the neutral zone the whole game.

I saw Hackett skate over to 204 and make a few motions. He is a D-bag. Double the security for next season if he comes back. He made a lot of enemies with that one!

  8. obviously disappointed in the outcome tonight, but blaming the goalie and the coach? Really? Thats totally unexpected. Lane is a great coach, and has probably had more guys come under his teaching that ended in the NHL than most teams. Nashville doesn’t always pick the flashiest guys, but a lot of the credit for getting them to learn the “Predator Way” should be given to Lane.

Honestly, the AHL playoffs are a crapshoot every year. They can’t be compared to the NHL playoffs at all really. We played a Texas team that had all their NHL reinforcements, and we battled a Houston team (that we battled for first place all year) to a game 7…with their NHL guys here, and we had ours for 1 game. If everyone was on a level playing field, it would make a huge difference…but its not…and thats what sucks about being a developmental league. I think Lane is a hell of a coach, and hope to see him around (if he doesn’t get a call to the NHL)

And bashing Smith? Really? The guy was incredible all playoffs after being pushed into a starting role after an injury. As stated before, we don’t even get to the 7th game without Smith. He certainly wasn’t our problem tonight. Did he let in a soft 2nd goal? Of course, but we certainly had chances to put pucks away at the other end of the ice.

Loved the determination of Halischuk tonight. Guy played like a freaking beast out there. Blake ends up with 2 secondary assists…..still not all that impressed with his play.

  9. Yeah, I really don’t see bashing Lambert either… Back in September, half of us were wondering if this team would even make the playoffs with all that we lost in the off season. The team prevailed and played even better despite another season of shuffling guys around between the leagues.

Then we get to the playoffs as the #1 seed and go to game 7 of the 2nd round with half of our roster filled with Unknowns and NeverHeardOfs… I think the only way we don’t see Lambert next season is if he gets a much deserved (I think, at least) promotion to the big show.

  10. I don’t have a problem with Smitty playing it behind the net. But bouncing puck or no bouncing puck, that goal is a deflater. The guys were resillient and were able to get him off the hook, so that’s good. But if that was the game winning goal, I think we’d be seeing some more negative comments.

And I’ll stand up for Coach Lambert. Not because we’re buds or anything. But he was able to get more out of guys that didn’t have the mad skills that a lot of other teams had. I think that may have been his last game in Milwaukee, and if it was, as a media-type, I’m going to miss the hell out of him. And as a fan, I’m going to miss the hell out of him too.

Wellman had a hell of a shot. If Smitty makes that save, we add it to his list of monster saves this series. Instead, we have to give credit where it’s due.

Didn’t see any gesturing from Hackett at the end, but meh. Is what it is. And he owes Drew Bagnall a juicy steak this week.

I thought Blake looked better than he did the last time we saw him. I thought Blum looked pretty similar to the last time we saw him. I think Halischuk was outstanding.

It’ll be interesting to see which tweener-forwards will break camp with Nashville, since they’ve got so many guys already under contract for next year.

We’ll write some more stuff later this week…but I think we make take a day or two to let it all sink in…..and try to figure out who the hell we want to root for going forward….not a fan of the options so much….

  11. I hope Nigel Dawes lights up Hackett like….he…did…to…us…all…season!?!?

Is that kind of a backhanded insult? Oh well! I’m running with it!

  12. Ryan, why do you think this was Lambert’s last game? Think he’s on to greener pastures, or do you think the organization wants to go with somebody else?

  13. Mark, he’s clearly upset with people complaining on message boards about him!

  14. Really disappointed by the fan base tonight, especially what I saw out of a certain “rowdy” section. So a goaltender came over by the glass, no need to shout at him and flip him off. And booing the team when it was announced they were going on to the next round? Fairly tasteless. Yeah, it sucks that our team lost, but I think the Nashville fan base went about things the right way by standing up at the end of the game, cheering louder than they had during the game and getting a “Let’s go Predators” chant going.

And what’s the deal bashing Smith? Sure, he let up 32 goals in 13 games, but he faced 462 shots, nearly ONE HUNDRED MORE than the 2nd most shots faced by a goaltender in the postseason this year. As far as playing the puck, anyone else remember Pekka in game 6 against Hershey in the finals coming out to damn near the blue line to play a puck late in the game and got burned bad by it. I think he’s gotten over that little speed bump in his career.

And I’m fine with our coaching staff the way it is. I mean, Barry Trotz is proof enough that in the Predators organization, winning in the post season isn’t everything.

  15. While I agree the flipping off wasn’t necessary. I do agree with the shouting though. I sit in 206, so I had a good view of Hackett taunting them over there, it wasn’t just a normal “stretch out the legs” kind of skate they do during game breaks. I think if Luongo was as cocky and hot-headed, the Nashville fan base would have had a different reaction as well.

  16. How can anyone blame smith for the loss! Yeah it sucked when we let in the soft goal but we did get it back! This team really fought hard and just never got that extra bounce in their favor. It really sucked at the end after the handshakes and all that watching wilson abd thuresson waiting to exit the ice last as they gazed around the BC for what most likely was their last time as admirals…… They both played well in the series and were finally getting their game going, having watched those guys from their first games here its tough watching them leave without getting further than round 2…. Hockey playoff are like no other one moment your tied and fighting and the very next its over. Very sad end to the season and just wish I could defer the next few months till next season! The blog has been fun, we never meet but the regulars you feel like you know them! Well now just go dogs, win it for mac!!!

  17. “Laakso who sucks at D and was a -4”

First of all, Laakso doesn’t suck at D. He made a few mistakes tonight, but other than that, he’s been probably the best d-man in the defensive zone on this team.

Second of all, you can hardly blame Laakso for the goal that Smith gave away or the empty netter and even the other two can’t be placed on his shoulders alone, so I don’t really understand why you’re even bothering with his +/- rating…

The biggest reason the Ads lost this series is in the offense anyway. Most of the time they couldn’t keep the offense going for more than a few passes. No controlled attacks, no pressure, barely any decent scoring chances. I blame the coach for that.

  18. I think if Lane doesn’t land an NHL job head coaching job (working for Santos in Florida has to be a possibility), he’ll be an assistant in Nashville. If I recall, Coach Peterson is stepping down.

  19. Ugh, what a crappy way to end it. blaming smith for anything is ludicrous. he made a mistake but it didn’t cost the game. the shot that beat him for the win was really 50/50. You either field it clean and make the big save or its past you, there was no grey area. again, the admirals don’t get past anything without him.

as for lane, I’ve been critical of him in the past but I think he did a helluva job this season not just getting this team to playoffs but winning divisional and conference regular season titles through all kinds of injuries, call ups and his teams shortcomings.

were the aeros the better team overall? Call me a sore loser this morning but no. You don’t wanna start making excuses about call ups and injuries but if the aeros were the hands down stronger of the two they would have rolled right over our ato’s. they really hung in there, battled it out but in the end shot themselves in the foot all through the playoffs. they could have won game 4, they SHOULD have won game 5. too many shots allowed, penalties inconsistent offense you name it.

the defense pisses me off the most. it never got better, I expected more out of our vets. the offense picked the wrong night to go dormant again. I have to admit that I expected too much with blum Geoffrion and halischuk back. blum was a complete non factor, without Geoffrion and halischuk would we have gotten shut out? Where was everyone else again? I have yet to figure out the game of Ryan flynn. what does he bring to the table that helps a team win? If someone else can tell me please do.

I think this team underachived and overachieved all season. maybe things are different with klasen in the lineup, maybe they’re different if Nashville exits the playoffs sooner. maybe it doesn’t matter at all who knows.

hackett is a douche, no question. if you can’t handle fan taunting then you’re in the wrong profession. I hope Hamilton lights him up like a Christmas tree.

To be oh so close but see the puck then end up in the back of your net with a minute and a half to go is worse then getting blown out imo. I don’t want to talk, watch or think hockey for the next 4 1/2 months. this is one of the more gut wrenching losses I’ve experienced.

  20. One question I wish could be answered is why did the time out not get called after houston scored on the breakway? I really thought if it were called you could settle down the troops, go over when your pulling smith, and all of those things and set up a play or two, but nothing… Unless the timeout got used and I wasn’t paying attention…. Dam I just gotta get over this and move on, I really hope the ‘dogs blast a pile of pucks past that turd sandwich of a goaltender hackett!!!

  21. Mark, I sit in 207, so my view wasn’t much different than yours. And Luongo is cocky in more of a Patrick Roy, unnecessary flash and pomp sort of way. I’d like to believe what happened in Nashville was a great fan base saluting their team on the best season they’ve ever had, not a group of people disrespecting the opposition after what was, personally, the best playoff series I’ve ever seen.

“hackett is a douche, no question. if you can’t handle fan taunting then you’re in the wrong profession.” And if, as a fan, you can dish it out all game but not take it, then you should be watching tennis or golf.

  22. Game 5 should have been a win for the for ads. They let that one go, and now they get to take a long time off to reflect and train for the next season. I can already smell playoffs for the ads next year!!

  23. Oh I can take it, and give it right back. you’re comparing this to an nhl game where the fans of the team in question know they have a hard working team with a talent level no where near their opponents. its a miracle that they kept it so close. they also didn’t lose the pivotal game 7 in the final minutes. I didn’t boo the aeros but I certainly didn’t clap for them. do you think areos fans would have offered the admirals anything different if the game were in Houston? When you win you go celebrate with your team. not gesture to the fans. I didn’t see what he did but he’s still a douche.

  24. Just curious how people are measuring who “wants it more” and who “doesn’t try”. I can’t see that meter from my seat at the Bradley Center.

Coach Lambert deserves a TON of credit for the job he’s done here. He’s graduated several players to the NHL, including Ryan Jones and Mike Santorelli in other organizations. Not every team can win the championship, or even make the playoffs. Yes, Milwaukee has had a great history of getting to the playoffs, but it’s different players each season. You don’t think the coach has something to do with that?

The fact of the matter is some people will never be happy. The great thing about the internet is everyone has a voice. The bad thing about the internet: everyone has a voice. Some people should keep their voice to themselves.

  25. And execution of passes is the coaches fault? When was the last time you saw a coach go out during the game and make a pass or receive one? When was the last time a coach had to block a shot?

You don’t think they go over this stuff in practice and meetings? Get real. At this level, every team is unbelievably prepared by their coaches. They’re not playing in a controlled environment. There’s another team pushing back.

  26. Definitely don’t want to blame anyone this morning. Especially not Smith and Lambert. Everyone worked their butts off to get us this far and I am sure they are extremely sore and disappointed waking up this morning without moving on. I totally give credit to Houston but they had their NHL call-ups for the whole series. And it took them 7 games to finish us off. We had 5 guys in the lineup yesterday who flew in that morning to play. 3 of them played their hearts out and gotten beat just the night before and the other 2 had 2 long flights in 2 days. I know they are pros and it’s part of the job but it’s gotta take something out of you. Especially at this time of the year when you are probably already so banged up and gassed to begin with.
I just think we need to give credit to these guys in this league. In the NHL, teams and fans whine all the time about officials and injuries and the unfairness of the bounces. In the AHL the guys have to deal with that and call-ups. And no instant-replay. And worse officiating than they see in the NHL. And yet, Lambert and the guys all managed to have a pretty awesome year. If you had told me that we got to game 7 of the second round of the playoffs without Klasen, Dex, Halischuk, Geoffrion and Blum I would have told you that you were a nutjob. But we did and had fun doing it. I am really proud of them and I am excited to see who we keep for next year.

  27. I never said you had to boo or clap for the Aeros. I was disappointed the fans chose to boo the opposition rather than congratulate the home team on a great season.

And not really a “miracle” Nashville kept it close. Over the past 2 years, Nashville split the regular season series against Vancouver with a combined score of 18-18. Hate to break it to you, but the Preds are no longer bottom dwellers in the NHL.

  28. It pains me to see smith talking like its his fault and he let the team down. its the TEAM that should be taking him out for steak today before they part ways. he was unbelievable and can’t be faulted for anything.

Very well said griffin. No gripes about the ato’s, they played as well as they could. with so many regulars out of lineup again they stuck in there and battled through the mistakes with smitty being the ultimate game saver. “What if” is always the question of the off season.

I hope we have a more balanced offense next season and more consistent D. our goaltending is set, smith or dex we’ll be just fine.

  29. The Aeros only got two NHL’ers, Spurgeon and Scandella. Scandella spent a lot of time on the injured list when he took a puck to the ear and then broke his finger. He didnt play right away when he did get down here. The Aeros didnt really get a huge advantage by having their NHL’ers the whole series. And they did have their ATO player Bulmer.

Both teams played hard. I give Smith a lot of credit for being the backbone of the Ads. Dont crucify him for one mistake. It could have been worse. He faced a firing squad from the Aeros and made some incredible stops.

  30. I never said the preds were bottom dwellers either. plenty of injuries for them, rinne saved their butts too like smith.

I do recall cheering for the team after the handshakes. sorry we didn’t do exactly what the preds fans did. time to drop it.

  31. Re: clapping for Houston as they were announced the winners of the series – I clapped for them. They fought hard and won the series. Congrats to them. If the Admirals players show their respect for their opposition through the handshake line, I can show respect by clapping/congratulating them. That’s the unique aspect of hockey IMO.

  32. Wicked-I hear ya. I guess my point was more about their whole team being together for awhile and being settled and jelled. Not a lot of guys up and down and all over the place within the series. And you are right-both teams played hard.

  33. What a year! One player decides to leave to play in Europe. The leading scorer and the #1 goalie are both injured and are out for the rest of the season. Players are hurt in Nashville and three of are players are called up. The #3 goalie is called up and takes the team to the playoffs. Despite all of this the team still finds a way to win games and win the regular season title. I have been an ADS fan since 2002-03 and this has been one most enjoyable season to watch this team. I tip my hat to the team, the coaches and the Admirals front office. Thank you for one terrific season of hockey. I can’t wait for the 2011-12 season.

  34. No series is ever lost on one play. With that being said, a series can defiantly be won on one play. It makes sense, trust me. Blaming Smith for this loss would be like blaming the bullet in Kennedy’s death. It took a lot of help by others to get it to that point (back, and to the left…back, and to the left).
As for Lane, I think he has been nothing shy of exceptional and should get a shot at the NHL hands down. When you get to this point in the season, there is not much a coach can do or say that he hasn’t already instilled in his troops. It is instead the time for the veterans to step up and guide their team through these things.
Hackett…. meh… he will get his…. let’s not get hasty because he is young and eager to make a scene. You just got to ask him, “you mad bro?”

  35. I know I said that I was gonna drop this but i’m just trying to be logical.

someone said the ending to Nashville’s game should be maybe treated as the exception rather then the norm. Nashville’s game was different, they had been down 2-1 for several minutes had chances to tie it up but fell short. the admirals loss was quick, shocking. like getting stabbed in the back and then in the chest with the quick empty netter. when the horn sounds you have those who are still in shock and do nothing, those that recognise the end that clap and those that are pissed and boo.

I’m not saying that anyone’s wrong, just that it was a different type of game that maybe shouldn’t be compared too closely.

  36. Im not sure if anyone else saw this but thurresson was also standing on the ice taking there time to get off with kelsey. Do you think it was his last game also in milwaukee?

  37. I’m pretty sure all of the Predators fans were cheering because they woke up and were excited the game was finally over. Nashville has to be one of most boring teams to watch in the playoffs. As for the Admirals game, I understand the booing. This is 2 times in 3 years that the Aeros have come into Milwaukee and taken a Game 7. You can cheer a random team that happens to beat you in a series, but you can’t cheer a team that does it repeatedly, especially since they are a division rival also.

  38. So because the Predators lost in game 6, were trailing anyways, didn’t lose to a divisional opponent and were the lower seeded team it doesn’t hurt as much that their team was eliminated? As a fan, seeing your team eliminated sucks, no matter the situation.

  39. > you can’t cheer a team that does it repeatedly, especially since they are a
    > division rival also

As long as the players are willing to show respect and do the handshake thing, I’ll cheer for the opposition when they are announced as the winners. Doesn’t mean I support Houston. It’s just a show of sportsmanship and respect.

I noticed that Wilson and Thurresson stood and waited as well. They stood and looked around a bit, as if they were taking their last glimpses of the arena.

I’m actually rooting for Hamilton in the next round, not because of anything to do with Houston, but just because I’d like to see Mac-In-Tire succeed!

  40. And I’m not trying to take anything away from a preds fans pain from a loss. but I stand by my assessment of a different game, different circumstances, different ending and therefore different reactions.

  41. Last post in this thread for me.

Because the Preds fans trailed for the final 52 minutes of the game, they were able to go through the five stages of grief and arrive at accepting their season was over by the end of the game? Not buying it. I don’t see how missing your chance to tie on a last minute rally is, from an emotional standpoint, that much different than a last minute break that puts in the GWG. Both are pretty gut wrenching.

Fact of the matter is, I agree with CreedFeed. If the teams can put aside their differences and go through the handshake line, I can act like an adult and applaud the effort of the two teams on a great series of hockey and hope the strong play carries over to next year. Because isn’t that what makes sports fun? The rivalries?
