The Milwaukee Admirals have assigned forward Anthony Richard and defenseman Jonathan Diaby to their ECHL affiliate the Cincinnati Cyclones this morning.
For Richard one kind of wonders why he didn’t just stay with the Cyclones after joining them last Friday night. He made his ECHL debut and ended up scoring his first career pro goal and followed that up with an assist in a 6-5 overtime loss for the Cyclones. This season Richard has yet to record a point with the Admirals at the AHL level from 10 games.
Diaby basically is the Admirals seventh defenseman at this point but is even firther down on the totem pole while Anthony Bitetto serves his two week conditioning assignment from the Nashville Predators. Diaby has played 4 games with the Cyclones this season while picking up 3 assists. He has played 2 games this season for the Admirals.
The Admirals and Cyclones are both in action tomorrow night on home ice. The Admirals match up against the Grand Rapids Griffins at 7:00 PM CST. The Cyclones will be playing against the Quad City Mallards at 6:35 PM CST.
The Nashville Predators have assigned defenseman Anthony Bitetto to the Milwaukee Admirals on conditioning assignment. In addition, the Admirals have recalled forward Anthony Richard from the Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL.
Per the rules of a conditioning assignment Bitetto’s stint with the Admirals can last no longer than two weeks (14 consecutive days). Bitetto served a conditioning assignment last season and played 6 games during that time. In accordance to that rule this stint should at maximum take him through 5 games beginning today in Clevand ending with the Admirals second pass through Cleveland on December 2nd. With Petter Granberg taking Bitetto’s more familiar #2 the New Yorker will play in the newly vacated by Justin Kirkland #24.
The other move today comes with the in-state rodeo for Richard who was reassigned yesterday from the Admirals, who are in Cleveland, to their ECHL affiliate in Cincinnati. Richard made his ECHL debut last night and recorded a goal followed by an assist. Those were firsts in his professional playing career and he has immediately been recalled. Should he play tonight it would be a three-in-three set of games for the first-year pro.
The Milwaukee Admirals have reassigned forward Anthony Richard to the Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL. The roster move comes a day after the first-year pro played in the Admirals 1-0 shutout on the road over the Cleveland Monsters.
Richard has played in 10 games for the Admirals so far this season but has yet to score a point of offense. He joined the Admirals late last season after finishing a four-year junior career with Val-d’Or Foreurs (QMJHL) where he produced 238 points (111 goals, 127 assists) in 232 games. He made his professional debut during the 2016 Calder Cup Playoffs with the Admirals.
This roster move should do Richard well by way of granting him much more ice time in the ECHL to get his offensive game back in motion. Richard has had some flashes here and there but has generally looked to be fighting it at times as far as keeping up with the pace of the game goes. He oddly didn’t look nearly as overwhelmed as he does now as when he did in his debut during the playoffs. This ECHL trip could do him real well to eat up minutes and eventually return to the Admirals all the sharper because of it. I’d imagine in the meantime it would mean a return to the lineup for Justin Kirkland who was a healthy scratch in place of Richard last night. The two have rotated here and there in that respect a few times this season.
The Cyclones play tonight on home ice against the Atlanta Gladiators. It won’t be that long of a trek from Cleveland to Cincinnati for Richard to get to the ECHL affiliate. It is the lone contest of the weekend for the Cyclones so it’ll be a wait and see game as far as if Richard plays just the lone game tonight or sticks around for small portion longer.
After the earlier news regarding Mark Visentin being reassigned to the Cincinnati Cyclones (ECHL) you had to figure this news was coming. Juuse Saros has been assigned by the Nashville Predators to the Milwaukee Admirals. This roster move comes just ahead of the Admirals upcoming three-game road trip that starts in Cleveland tomorrow night.
This season Saros has made seven starts for the Admirals and holds a record in net of 6-1-0-0. He has a 1.99 goals against average and 0.929 save percentage at the AHL level and earlier in the season earned his first career NHL victory with the Predators.
Per ECHL Transactions the Milwaukee Admirals have reassigned goaltender Mark Visentin to the Cincinnati Cyclones (ECHL). Visentin was recalled by the organization on Monday to fill a back-up role while the Nashville Predators recalled Marek Mazanec in light of a day-to-day lower-body injury to Pekka Rinne. Visentin was on the bench last night while Jonas Gunnarsson got the start in the Admirals 3-2 overtime win against the Charlotte Checkers.
According to Thomas A. Willis this morning’s practice for the Predators saw Rinne take part along with Mazanec. Juuse Saros, on the other hand, was absent. It would likely be a safe assumption then that Saros could be en route to meet up with the Admirals in Cleveland before tomorrow night’s road game against the defending Calder Cup Champions.
The Nashville Predators have officially recalled Marek Mazanec from the Milwaukee Admirals this morning. In response the Admirals have recalled Mark Visentin from their ECHL affiliate the Cincinnati Cyclones.
This goaltending swap originated to give Mazanec game action that he wasn’t seeing top side while giving the youngster Saros a look up with the Predators. At today’s practice for the Predators all goalies were accounted for except Pekka Rinne.
Mazanec made two starts for the Admirals during his time back in the AHL. He recorded a win and an overtime loss in two gutsy performances in front of him by the Admirals in comeback style. As for the last game he played he took much if not all the blame in the team’s 4-3 overtime loss to the Grand Rapids Griffins. He had a 3.90 goals against average and 0.849 save percentage in his two starts with the Admirals.
The Admirals and Predators are both in action tomorrow night. The Admirals host the Charlotte Checkers at 7 PM CST while the Predators take to the road for a game against the Toronto Maple Leafs at 6:30 PM CST.
Thoughts on today’s roster news? Who do you feel sees the start in net for the Admirals tomorrow?
According to today’s ECHL Transactions the Milwaukee Admirals have recalled defenseman Jonathan Diaby from their ECHL affiliate the Cincinnati Cyclones.
Diaby was reassigned by the Admirals to the ECHL last Tuesday. He has since played in four games for the Cyclones and registered 3 assists, 3 shots on goal, and a plus/minus rating of +2. The Cyclones won all four games during the time Diaby was involved. So far this season Diaby has only logged a single appearance for the Admirals which came during the food poisoning chaos topside for the Nashville Predators. Diaby was dressed as the seventh choice defenseman for the Admirals in that contest and saw minimal action.
The Admirals next game is on Saturday night at 6 PM CST when they face the Grand Rapids Griffins for the first time in the 2016-17 season. The Griffins swept the Admirals out of the 2016 Calder Cup Playoffs last season. Hopefully the game taking place at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena will mean the nets will actually do what they’re supposed to do.
Well, this is a shocking turn of events. The Milwaukee Admirals have made a trade with the Springfield Falcons organization to acquire veteran defenseman Adam Pardy in exchange for Eric Robinson, Teddy Doherty, and Brandon Whitney. This move comes in a day where the Nashville Predators called up the Admirals previous veteran defenseman Matt Irwin.
Press Release via Milwaukee Admirals:
Milwaukee, WI—The Milwaukee Admirals announced today that the team has acquired defenseman Adam Pardy from the Springfield Thunderbirds in exchange for forward Eric Robinson, defenseman Teddy Doherty, and goalie Brandon Whitney.
Pardy, 32, brings over 300 games of NHL experience to the Admirals, having split the 2015-16 campaign between the Edmonton Oilers and the Winnipeg Jets. In total he has played in 338 NHL games with the Oilers, Jets, Buffalo Sabres, Dallas Stars, and Calgary Flames, scoring four goals, dishing out 48 assists and accumulating 263 penalty minutes.
A native of Bonavista, NL, Pardy has played 185 games in the AHL with the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights, Quad City Flames, Texas Stars, Rochester Americans, and St. John’s IceCaps. He has nine career AHL goals and 30 assists for 39 points to go along with 178 penalty minutes.
This move is a shock given just how young the season is. The Admirals depart with a well thought of forward in Robinson, a first-year pro defenseman in Doherty, and a less than stellar goaltending prospect in Whitney who at this point in the season has almost been a ghost by not being invited to Admirals or the Cincinnati Cyclones pre-season training camps. That’s what the Admirals lost today. What the Admirals do gain is a well respected hard nosed veteran defenseman in Pardy that has logged 338 career games in the NHL as well as 183 career games at the AHL level.
I feel the biggest question for me right now is why was this move made? Is it a sign that perhaps Anthony Bitetto is going to be out for a massive stretch of the season or the entire season and Irwin’s recall is more aimed at that purpose with the reactionary trade here today to fill his void in Milwaukee? There is really not an answer to that question. Not today.
Reactions to today’s trade? Was this a good decision by the organization to add another veteran defenseman to the mix? Does Adam Pardy’s style of hockey really lend itself to the Predators/Laviolette style of “defenseman joining the rush” hockey?
After yesterday’s chaotic happenings due to food poisoning for the Nashville Predators the process to bring some normality back into the AHL and ECHL outfits is starting to unfold. The Predators have reassigned forwards Trevor Smith and Frédérick Gaudreau to the Milwaukee Admirals. Meanwhile, the Admirals have assigned goaltender Mark Visentin back to the Cincinnati Cyclones. The Admirals have also released both Shawn O’Donnell and Dov Grumet-Morris from their PTO Contracts. O’Donnell is expected to report back with the Cyclones.
When you consider all that took place yesterday across all three tiers of the Predators organization it is rather incredible how all responded. The Predators came away with a stunning 5-1 win at home over the reigning Stanley Cup champions the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Admirals fought a hard contest, battling back from down 2-0, but took away a point on the road after a 3-2 shootout loss to the Rockford IceHogs. Then the Cyclones earned their first win of the season by defeating the Wheeling Nailers 2-1 at home. For rapidly getting stretched thin the entire organization really shined last night.
UPDATE. You can now include goaltender Juuse Saros as one of the names being reassigned by the Nashville Predators to the Milwaukee Admirals.

During last night’s Nashville Predators road game against the Detroit Red Wings it was apparent that a touch of the flu was tackling some players in the lineup. Ryan Johansen and Craig Smith both left the game early due to flu-like symptoms and didn’t return. As it so happens the team was stricken by food poisoning thought to be caused by a pre-game meal at the hotel. The majority of the team was impacted by the situation and it has caused a wave of roster activity today. The official word is now this: the Predators have recalled Frédérick Gaudreau, Austin Watson, Trevor Smith, Harry Zolnierczyk, and Juuse Saros from the Milwaukee Admirals.
This is the first career NHL recall for Gaudreau. And, out of all the names listed above set for recall, Gaudreau is the special story of the group. He was an undrafted talent out of the QMJHL and signed an AHL contract with the Admirals in the Summer of 2014. He flipped between the Admirals and their ECHL affiliate the Cincinnati Cyclones during his first pro season (2014-15) but made a huge name for himself last season. He missed last season’s regular season opener as a healthy scratch but from then on he was undeniable: 42 points (15 goals, 27 assists) in 75 games while playing in all situations – namely a first man over the boards on the penalty kill alongside Félix Girard. Gaudreau really exploded the moment that then Admirals captain Colton Sissons was recalled to the Predators and Gaudreau stepped right into his role and outperformed Sissons at the top-line center position by producing 12 points (4 goals, 8 assists) in 14 games during the month of December. It paved the way to him earning an NHL contract with the Predators and was followed up not too long by his selection to the AHL All-Star Game.
The rest involved with the recall are a more veteran established group – and Saros. With just the lone goaltender chosen to stick around I hazard to guess whether or not Jonas Gunnarsson is due to return and make his North American pro debut tonight for the Admirals. In the instance he isn’t? They have taken care of that by bringing Mark Visentin up from the ECHL and penning Dov Grumet-Morris to a PTO Contract.
Matt Irwin was seen in Nashville today but it sounds very much like he was swiftly en route to join the Admirals once again. It has simply been a day of chaos and flu-like symptoms all around for the food poison riddled Predators. Thankfully for the Admirals this issue should only impact tonight’s game with the next outing past tonight’s game in Rockford being next Friday.
