Preds Rookies Win Again; Smith Scores Two More

The game was a bit closer, but after spotting the Panthers an early one goal lead, the Nashville rookies scored the next three for a 3-1 victory early Tuesday afternoon.

Craig Smith followed up his four goal game yesterday with ONLY two goals today.  What a letdown, right?

Atte Engren started and gave up the lone goal against.  Chet Pickard came on in relief and stopped all the shots he faced.

A link to some video highlights can be found here.

But ok Roundtable….here’s what I want to know from you.  Six goals in two games for Craig Smith is pretty great.  But it’s just two games, against rookies….What do you think are the odds that Craig Smith opens the season with Nashville?

Give your answer PTI style.   BS your rationale like Michael Wilbon for a sentence or two, and then give me a percentage.

  1. Only two goals for Smith? What’s the problem? Is he disgruntled with his contract already?

Two things going for Smith to make the big club, well, actually three.

He’s scoring alot right now. The Preds have been pumping Craig ever since he signed. He’ll have to fill his diaper BIG TIME not to make the club when the season opens.

Finally, he’s wearing a real number already and not some number above 50.

90% sure he makes the Preds when camp breaks.

  2. It sure is fun to watch, but I think I’m going to go a bit lower. For him to make the roster (provided everyone else is healthy), he’s going to need to play. They shouldn’t keep him around to be the 13th or 14th forward. For him to play, that means someone else on a one-way deal isn’t. And has he passed Geoffrion on the depth charts?

Smith plays Center…..I don’t see them benching Legwand, O’Reilly, Fisher, or Smithson. I know some guys can play the wing and be flexible, but still. I don’t know who they scratch in Smith’s favor at this point.

Without injuries or trades, I put Smith at 10% to make the roster out of camp. I’m fairly sure he’ll play there sometime this year, but I don’t see him starting with the big club.

  3. “The road to Nashville is through Milwaukee.”

5.5% chance to make it in Nashville out of camp. Maybe he’ll remain in Milwaukee for a month and get called up, but as Ryan said, out of camp, who are they going to push aside? Someone like Smith will need to be playing, not getting 4 minutes of ice time a game.

  4. 3% Chance he makes it. You never know with injuries but I believe there are a few people he still needs to pass. Geoffrion and Mueller to name two of them.
